1929 Pontiac

  • 1929 Pontiac Series 6-28

There were three series built for the 1929 Pontiac model year. The first series was the 6-28, carried over from the 1928 series 6-28 model with very few changes. The 6-28 series was built from August to November of 1928. The biggest and most visible change from the 1928 to 1929 series 6-28 was that the artillery wood spoke wheels went from 12 spoke, to a sturdier and thicker 10 spoke wheel. Tire size changed from 4.75 x 20 to 5 x 19. Among mechanical changes, the Carter carburetor was replaced with the Marvel.

This Saturday Evening Post ad is for the 1929 Series 6-28 Pontiac for 1929. This looks a lot like the ad we have posted for the 1928 Pontiac, but count the wood spokes on the wheels.

  • 1929 Pontiac Series 6-29

This 1929 Pontiac model 6-29A would be the first in the 6-29 series. The radiator now has a chrome bar through the center, becoming the first split, or twin grille design that Pontiac would become famous for. The honeycomb radiator would also be emulated by honeycomb shapes in plastic grilles decades later by Pontiac. Other changes included the belt line that swoops downward at the windshield. The hood had horizontal louvres to lend a look of length to the hood.

  • 1929 Pontiac 2dr Sedan at Tampa Theatre

Paramount Studios heavily financed the construction of Tampa Theatre in 1926 along with other investors. World famous theater architect John Eberson designed the Tampa Theatre with an innovative atmosphere that gives the illusion that you are outdoors under a night sky. Tampa Theatre was also Tampa's first air conditioned building. The theatre still operates today, and you can experience classic movies the way audiences did when they were produced, along with the pre-show Wurlitzer entertainment that still comes up out of the stage.
